In the fall of 2020, the third edition of the Hackathon for Good will take place, where teams over the whole world will develop innovative solutions for global social issues. This year the Hackathon, where datasets are built into innovations that contribute to a better world, is an online program focusing on the ethical, legal and security aspect of AI. The Hackathon for Good 2020 is organised by The Hague Tech, in close collaboration with the Hague’s innovation ecosystems and made possible by the City of The Hague.
The challenges we face today are increasingly complex and interlinked, requiring a collaborative and data driven approach to resolving them. The Hackathon for Good connects non-profits, governments, start-ups, corporates, and talent from around the world to develop resilient solutions for a more peaceful, just and secure world. Through a 3-month programme, they take on the challenge to develop human-centered, (cyber)secure and innovative solutions to real world problems.
In November 2018, the City of The Hague’s Data Science Initiative ran the first Hackathon for Good together with the Hague Tech, the Humanity Hub and many other partners. Five challenge owners pitched complex AI challenges faced by their organisations, and 120 techies competed over two days to solve them. The event was such a success that a second Hackathon was run in 2019.
Some of the previous challenge owners included Asser Institute, International Criminal Court, Red Cross Netherlands, NATO, International Organisation for Migration, Red Cross Netherlands, European Commission and Space4Good.
Submit your challenge
For the 2020 edition of the Hackathon challenges can be submitted. Challenge owners are assisted with designing the challenge and organising the dataset to create an ethical, legal, and secure AI solution. But also preparing for and guiding the challenge owner into innovation in the post-Hackathon phase.
