Brown Bag Lunch x Samuel Hall

1 May @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

Did you know that over 32 million new displacements due to natural disasters were recorded in 2022 alone (IDMC). Samuel Hall has been studying the phenomena of mobility and displacement since its inception in 2010 and it is clear that the consequences of climate change are felt more severely by some than others. So who can be the actors of change for driving climate mobility solutions?

Our conversations with communities across Africa and South & Central Asia and the Greater Caribbean confirm that dialogues are often more constructive at the local level. Grassroots movements, activists, migrants and displaced people themselves have shown what real action can be. Our research across various contexts has also shown that women, who are often on the frontlines of climate change, have a higher level of awareness about adaptive measures to climate risk and environmental degradation.

Their inclusion and meaningful leadership in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts can be integral to addressing inequalities and contributing to resilient communities. In addition, supporting communities’ decision-making can help strengthen levels of preparedness and response within areas impacted by climate change or environmental stress.

How do we do this?

Samuel Hall’s collaborative research with partners such as UNDP, UNEP, IOM, and GCCMI explores the impact of climate change on displaced communities. Their work also documents the stories and perspectives of those affected to shape relevant policies and programmes.

What can you expect?
