People-Centred Justice, Achieving impact at scale

The 8th edition of the peace&justice cafe focused on ‘People-Centred Justice’ in collaboration with The Hague Institute for the Innovation of Law and as part of Hague Justice Week! People-Centred Justice is a simple idea with huge potential impact: that legal practices and systems should be based on evidence, ‘what works’ from the potential of the citizen, and should be able to deliver satisfactory outcomes for the people they serve. Or, in short: sensible, outcome-oriented, and accessible. This peace&justice café took a cross-sectoral look at achieving these aims, working together with The Hague Humanity Hub community to explore the challenges, pitfalls and success factors of justice innovation at scale.
There were also side sessions at the cafe highlighting an, at the time, new consortium of 37 organisations in the Netherlands working on making conflict resolution accessible, effective and people centred through structural R&D.

The peace&justice café
is the networking hybrid event series for cross-sectoral connection and collaboration for a more peaceful and just world. Launched by the Hague Humanity Hub in collaboration with the Municipality of The Hague, it convenes the peacebuilders, justice innovators, researchers, humanitarians, impact entrepreneurs, policy makers, and other changemakers from The Hague and beyond. By strengthening our connections, we can help offer concrete solutions for today’s complex and pressing problems and increase our collective impact.

For the fourth edition, we highlighted the role the private sector can, should, and does play in driving a more peaceful and just world. Professionals of The Hague’s public, private, and non-profit sectors explored how the private sector chooses to respond to these calls and how NGOs, governments, and international organisations can shape this expanded role that they are carving out.

For the second edition on November 30, we discussed where we go now in the search for climate justice after COP26. What were the outcomes of #cop26? Did this ‘historic opportunity’ mean that we that we will be able to keep the temperature of the planet under control and limit its increase to 1.5 degrees? Are the promises that governments made on producing less carbon going to reverse the trends?
