The UN as ANTIFA and its necessity in Global Security: hidden histories for dynamic strategies

On Thursday 9th December Professor Dan Plesch (SOAS) will deliver a public lecture to mark Human Rights Day (10th December). He will delve into the histories of the UN, arguing for the organisation’s necessity in global security. To sketch out the horizon of possibilities for the future role of the UN in global governance and human rights he will be joined by Professor Alanna O’Malley in discussion before a public Q&A.

About the Speakers

Professor Dan Plesch – Professor of Diplomacy and Strategy at SOAS University of London.

His books include, The Beauty Queen’s Guide to World Peace, Human Rights After Hitler and America, Hitler and the UN. His research focuses on strategies for preventing global war and emphasises a restorative archeology of knowledge of the effective peacemaking work in the 1940s. 

Professor Alanna O’Malley is Chair of UN Studies in Peace and Justice at Leiden University and The Hague University of Applied Sciences.

She is a historian of the UN, decolonization, and the Global South. She has a PhD in History from the European University Institute and is currently Principal Investigator of a new project funded by a Starting Grant from the European Research Council, ‘Challenging the Liberal World Order from Within, The Invisible History of the United Nations and the Global South.’
