The ISIS Files Project

10 October, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

- Free

The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism – The Hague (ICCT) in collaboration with the Program on Extremism at the George Washington University (GWPOE) and the New York Times, cordially invites you to an event on “The ISIS Files”, part of a series of events discussing the Program on Extremism’s newest research endeavor. The event will be held at the Humanity Hub in The Hague on 10 October 2019.

Over the last few years, New York Times foreign correspondent and Program on Extremism senior fellow Rukmini Callimachi led an effort that gathered over 15,000 pages of documents left behind by ISIS in Iraq. These documents, which became known as the “The ISIS Files,” reveal the group’s sophisticated and organized governance structure and provide detailed evidence of their activities and atrocities. In September 2018, the Program on Extremism and the New York Times announced a research partnership that will enable George Washington University to create the virtual public archive for the ISIS Files. Since the formalization of the partnership, the Program on Extremism and the George Washington University’s Libraries and Academic Innovation division are in the process of creating a public, free access digital repository that will allow researchers around the world to access the documents.

The event will begin with an opening introduction by Rukmini Callimachi followed by a panel discussion with her and Lorenzo Vidino, moderated by Renske van der Veer. Following the panel, there will be a public Q&A session. A reception with drinks and light snacks will follow.
