Democracy Drinks: Guatemala’s Elections

25 January @ 5:00 pm 7:00 pm

Overview

#DemocracyDrinks bring together democracy advocates, thinkers and enthusiasts to connect in an informal setting. As a valuable opportunity for networking, the event will be all about making new contacts and catching up with people you know. You can test new ideas; plan common initiatives; and find moral support and inspiration. The event series in The Hague is a collaboration between the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC) and The Hague Humanity Hub.

This next edition of Democracy Drinks will reflect on the 2023 Election outcome in Guatemala. It will delve into the complexities of the elections following the majority vote for the newcomer – the Semilla party. The implications for the region will also be explored, as general elections for neighbouring countries of El Salvador and Mexico are coming up. We will also look at what the international community could and should do in light of the anti-democratic actions of the sitting government.
