Vacancy Just Peace Communications & Project Officer 

Start date: as soon as possible –  until 31-12-2023 (with possibility of extension)  

16-24 hrs per week on a freelance base

Just Peace aims to bring peace and justice to life for citizens of The Hague, by showcasing the variety of ways that the ecosystem of The Hague is working on peace and justice, both locally and internationally. The Hague Humanity Hub runs the Just Peace programme on behalf of the municipality of The Hague, in collaboration with various peace & justice partner organisations in The Hague.  

This year Just Peace is transitioning into a year-round programme and an online platform, aiming to highlight various relevant themes and existing peace & justice initiatives. To maintain and further develop the new online platform and create engaging thematic content we are looking for a part-time communications and project officer to join us on a freelance base. In this position you will work closely with the Just Peace Programme Manager and the Communications team.   

You will engage with our growing community of partner organisations and manage the Just Peace website and social media accounts with information about relevant themes, events, news stories and other exciting happenings in The Hague. You will curate content, write texts, publish materials, and keep the website current and functional.  Together with other team members you will create and publish content for Instagram, Twitter and Facebook and a monthly Just Peace newsletter. For this you’ll (re)write and translate text, find photos, and create posters. All content will be produced in Dutch and English.     

Together with the Programme Manager and Communications Lead you’ll work on the further development of the Just Peace website and the Just Peace communication strategy.   

 Responsibilities 

  • Engage with Just Peace contributors and other partners to provide content for the web platform 
  • Adapt, produce and upload content for the web platform, including events, stories, and other formats 
  • Create and run website and social media campaigns around the major themes of the Just Peace calendar 
  • Manage the social media content calendar for Just Peace and work together with the team to populate the channels 
  • Support the coordination of special content projects with partners, including online exhibitions, podcasts, essay series, and other formats 
  • Support the further development of the Just Peace web platform and communication strategy 
  • Actively research and identify other relevant content opportunities for Just Peace 
  • Support other Hub programmes and activities as required 

What you bring 

  • Flexible, open-minded and creative  
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English (key criteria)  
  • Previous work experience in communications, including social media, marketing and online campaigns (1-3 years) and/or previous experience in project management. 
  • Ability to set the right tone and image for Just Peace  
  • Creative writing skills and ability to write persuasive texts for a wide audience  
  • Solid visual editing and editorial skills 
  • Working knowledge of graphic design software (Canva/Adobe Suite), social media tools (e.g. Zoho), newsletter tools (e.g. Mailchimp/Zoho Campaigns), CMS systems (e.g. Bolt) is an advantage  
  • A HBO/WO degree in communications/marketing/international relations/politics or other relevant fields  
  • Affinity with peace and justice in The Hague and the mission of Just Peace, interested in working in a purpose driven organisation  

What we offer:

Met Just Peace willen wij vrede en recht een belangrijke plaats geven in het hart en handelen van onze bewoners, ondernemers en organisaties. Just Peace is een publieksgericht programma en online platform dat als doel heeft de verschillende manieren te laten zien waarop het ecosysteem van Den Haag werkt aan vrede en recht, zowel op lokaal als internationaal niveau, en om zo het idee van een ‘Internationale Stad van Vrede en Recht’ tastbaarder te maken voor Haagse burgers. 

Het Just Peace programma is een samenwerking tussen de gemeente Den Haag en The Hague Humanity Hub en komt tot stand in samenwerking met tal van bijdragende organisaties die in Den Haag werken aan een vreedzamere en rechtvaardigere wereld. 

Dit jaar verandert Just Peace in een jaarrond programma en een online platform, met als doel verschillende relevante thema’s en bestaande initiatieven op het gebied van vrede & recht onder de aandacht te brengen. Om het nieuwe online platform te onderhouden en verder te ontwikkelen en relevante thematische content te creëren zijn we op zoek naar een parttime communicatie- en projectmedewerker die ons op freelancebasis komt versterken. In deze functie werk je nauw samen met de Just Peace Programme Manager en het communicatieteam.    

Je gaat in gesprek met onze groeiende gemeenschap van partner organisaties en beheert de Just Peace website en social media accounts met informatie over relevante thema’s, evenementen, nieuwsverhalen en andere relevante gebeurtenissen in Den Haag. Je stelt content samen, schrijft teksten, publiceert materiaal en houdt de website actueel en functioneel.  Samen met andere teamleden maak en publiceer je content voor Instagram, Twitter en Facebook en een maandelijkse Just Peace nieuwsbrief. Hiervoor (her)schrijf en vertaal je teksten, zoek je foto’s en maak je posters. Alle content wordt geproduceerd in het Nederlands en Engels. Samen met de Programme Manager en Communications Lead werk je aan de verdere ontwikkeling van de Just Peace website en de Just Peace communicatiestrategie.    

Takenpakket 

  • Samenwerken met Just Peace medewerkers en andere partners om inhoud voor het webplatform te creëren en publiceren.  
  • Aanpassen, produceren en uploaden van content voor het webplatform, inclusief evenementen, verhalen en andere formats.  
  • Creëren en uitvoeren van website en sociale media campagnes rond de belangrijkste thema’s van de Just Peace kalender  
  • Beheren van de sociale media content kalender voor Just Peace en samenwerken met het team om de kanalen te vullen  
  • Ondersteunen van de coördinatie van speciale content projecten met partners, waaronder online tentoonstellingen, podcasts, essay series en andere formats  
  • Ondersteunen van de verdere ontwikkeling van het Just Peace webplatform en de communicatiestrategie  
  • Actief onderzoeken en identificeren van andere relevante inhoudsmogelijkheden voor Just Peace  
  • Ondersteuning van andere Hub programma’s en activiteiten indien nodig.  

Wat neem je mee 

  • Flexibel, ruimdenkend en creatief   
  • Uitstekende beheersing van het Nederlands en Engels (belangrijkste criteria)   
  • Eerdere werkervaring in communicatie, waaronder sociale media, marketing en online campagnes (1-3 jaar) en/of eerdere ervaring in projectmanagement.

  • Creatieve schrijfvaardigheden en het vermogen om overtuigende teksten te schrijven voor een breed publiek
