MINE MARK launches innovative gaming application!

The Mine Mark Foundation is an Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) initiative which aims to protect children and youths from landmines, cluster ammunition, and other explosive remnants of war (ERWs) in contaminated zones. Mine Mark’s mission is to reduce the number of casualties from explosive remnants of war by providing free and state-of-the-art mine risk education for our target group, children, and adolescents. MINE MARK has designed a gaming application that hosts online educational content that address topics of EORE. So far,  Mine Mark Foundation is active in Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Get to know an innovative and live-saving project by our community member Mine Mark Foundation which educates children in conflict areas on how to avoid explosive ordnances.

Mine Mark’s latest project makes explosive ordnance risk education digital and available for all children with internet access in conflict areas. That enables the Mine Mark team and its partner organizations to reach more children in current or former conflict areas like Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Eastern Ukraine. Ultimately, Mine Mark’s approach is unique in the sense that different Mine Risk Education packages are created for each target group, enabling them to actively engage in the education and become ambassadors for Mine Risk Education themselves. Therefore, each educated child will educate others like friends, relatives or people that are living in the same village.

The first prototype of the Gaming Application for Mine Education (GAME) was developed in cooperation with software developers, psychologists, and teachers. It so far contains educational cartoons, six games, and constant warnings about correct behaviors in contaminated areas. The GAME was designed in an entertaining and engaging manner to interest children and youngsters between 6 and 12 of age and translated into 4 languages (English, Azerbaijani, Bosnian and Ukrainian). It will be one pillar of Mine Mark’s objective to protect children in remote, inaccessible as well as in urban areas from harm by explosive ordnances. Furthermore, the GAME allows Mine Mark to buffer COVID-19 travel restrictions by providing children in conflict areas with steady and high-quality explosive ordnance risk education. The GAME is regularly updated, improved and changed according to the children’s feedback, needs, and wishes.

The next stage of the project will be to testing the GAME under real-life conditions at the end of 2021. For more question or information send Mine Mark an e-mail to contact@minemark.org or meet them at the Hub!
