Capturing Peace at the Humanity Hub

This year’s final Hub Social was marked with a special theme – peace. We were joined by Hub members UN Youth Impact that kicked off their photo exhibition “Capturing Peace”, which sought to “capture peace” through the lens of a camera. The exhibition remains at the Humanity Hub for your viewing pleasure until the end of the year!

UN Youth Impact delivered an inspiring introduction to the recent Special Hub Social. It’s a project that aims to create a network of students around the Netherlands interested in engaging locally with the United Nations and its strategies for youth. The network is envisioned to organise a series of events relating to the Youth2030 strategy with a focus on the 16th Sustainable Development Goal: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

This photograph by Jasper de Groot illustrates peace through a peaceful sunrise at Lake Titicaca in Peru, the highest navigable lake in the world, where you can enjoy the ambiance of nature without distractions.

The kick-off included a poetry reading from one of the photo authors. His and other authors’ works will be available at the Humanity Hub until the end of the year.

The next opportunity to meet UN Youth Impact representatives will be at the 19 December panel discussion on Responsibility to Protect (R2P) at the Humanity Hub. Despite adoption of the R2P principle, implementation hasn’t been a smooth process. A panel of five distinguished scholars will debate this topic and answer audience questions, followed by a post-event drinks reception.
