Stefan for a discussion on the state of the R2P doctrine. \nPlease note that event time has changed from 5 PM to 4:30 PM! \nFrom the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect\, R2P ’embodies a political commitment to end the worst forms of violence and persecution.’ It was established in order to avoid a repeat of the atrocities that took place during the 1990s in Rwanda and Bosnia\, whilst also working to maintain the respect for sovereignty and non-use of force as enshrined by the UN Charter. \nR2P was adopted by Heads of State in 2005\, and since then steps have been taken to interpret the principle correctly for its implementation. This has not been a smooth process and there remains much debate surrounding the efficacy of the principle and how it is weighed against state sovereignty. At this panel discussion\, five distinguished scholars will debate this topic and answer questions from the audience. \nWalk in: 17:00-17:30\nPanel discussion: 17:30-18:45\nDrinks reception: 18:45-19:30 \nUN Youth Impact invites you to stay afterwards for a drinks reception in the Hub café. More information can be found by clicking here. \n\nThis panel discussion is part of a two-day workshop on Women in Peace and Security\, which will take place at Wijnhaven. This event runs as part of the activities of the Hague Chair of UN Studies in Peace and Justice.
