Transformative Methodologies workshop
11 May, 2021 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
This online workshop will go beyond the simplistic view of research objectives alone bringing about social transformation, and engage with the research process itself.
On transformative methodologies
Transformative methodologies go beyond the simplistic view of research objectives alone bringing about social transformation, and engage with the research process itself. Transformative methodologies are inherently reflexive and critical, and sharply focused on the power relations in the research process.
It focuses on answering several critical questions, including:
- Who wants transformative changes?
- Who brings about these changes?
- What are the intersectional implications of these changes?
Why this workshop?
With a conversation on transformative methodologies we seek to address these problematic assumptions and practices.
A critical and forward-looking synthesis of existing transformative research methodologies can serve as a key step in the development of methodologies and practices towards a more systematic, ISS-wide approach to research for social transformation.
We will gather on 11 May 2021 to synthesize and share our experiences and thoughts on transformative research methodologies. The key objective is to engage in a critical dialogue by discussing ways to further our application of transformative methodologies.
2 sessions (morning and afternoon)
Morning session (10:00-12:00): Sharing and discovering how ISS researchers have applied transformative methodologies
Afternoon session (14:00-16:00): Discussing ethical and other concerns, and future applications
