The International Humanitarian Law Congress

Law of war in the Netherlands, relevant?!

November 3 & 4, 2022 – The Hague

All activities of the Red Cross Movement worldwide are inextricably linked to International Humanitarian Law. The contemporary basis of the Law of War lies to a large extent in the Geneva Conventions, its Protocols and Hague Law.

These Geneva Conventions have been signed by all countries in the world, but what does those Treaties actually say, what does The Hague have to do with them and what happens if parties do not comply with the rules? The Red Cross ensures that the rules of warfare are known to a wider public. We do this by connecting with various experts to exchange ideas about pressing issues of this Law.

Through this congress we contribute to a connecting network in The Netherlands of experts and interested parties in International Humanitarian Law and humanitarian aid.

During this congress we will put together a substantive and challenging program with components such as:

  • The basic principles of law and their functioning for different professions;
  • discuss current dilemmas for humanitarian aid workers;
  • draw attention to the protective effect of the law by exposing current sub-themes and;
  • we take a look at the future of warfare and what challenges it poses.

Put these two days in your agenda so that we can meet you in The Hague in November.

The program is a paid conference for a diverse public: young and old, experts or just interested people, humanitarian aid worker or student.

The official languages will be Dutch and English.
