(Online) Scenarios for the future: the impact of the war in Ukraine on global food security

24 May, 2022 @ 11:00 am 12:00 pm

Humanitarian and development organizations feel an urgent need to better understand the potential impacts of the war in Ukraine on food security, particularly in fragile and low-income countries.

Preparing for possible scenarios

Wageningen University & Research, in cooperation with KUNO, the Netherlands Food Partnership and eight international NGOs, has developed four possible scenarios that describe the potential impact of the Ukraine war on food security in fragile contexts. This was done with the aim to provide insights in the possible implications of the Ukraine war on the work of humanitarian and development organizations.

These scenarios challenge us as organisations to anticipate and be proactive. Now, due to the interconnectivity of the global food system, this is especially urgent. This webinar will seek to address the questions:

  • How can humanitarian and development agents of change interpret these scenarios, and what do we need to do now to be ready for these futures?
  • Moving forward, what can we do within our own mandates to steer toward the future we would like to see?

Program

Speakers and building blocks:

  • Presentation of the scenarios and the reasoning behind it: Herman Brouwer & Just Dengerink (Centre for Development Innovation, Wageningen University & Research).
  • The relevance of the scenarios for humanitarian practice and development cooperation, both from the Global North and Global South (speakers to be confirmed).
  • Open discussion.

The webinar will be moderated by KUNO and NFP.
