National Migration Dialogue 2023 – Theme: The future of Ukrainian displaced persons in the Netherlands

5 July, 2023 @ 13:30 18:00

Take part in the National Migration Dialogue 2023 on 5 July and join the discussion about the local challenges for Ukrainian displaced persons in the Netherlands and the broader national and European perspective of this.

What problems do municipalities identify? How can they themselves contribute to the future of Ukrainian displaced persons? What could the national government do about this? Or the European Commission?

Build Migration Dialogue

The Migration Advisory Council presents its follow-up report on the need for a long-term vision for Ukrainian displaced persons. State Secretary Van der Burg has been asked to receive it.
This is followed by a discussion with, among others, Lodewijk Asscher (European Commission’s special adviser for Ukraine), Harm Benthem (Director of Newcomers (Ukraine and Asylum) of the Municipality of The Hague) and representatives from the Ukrainian community, such as Oksana Savchuk (Ukrainian House, Rotterdam).

The interactive workshops that follow are about:

  • Private shelter – including Katja Rusinovic (Migration Advisory Council) in collaboration with the municipality of Rotterdam
  • Work and labor market – with, among others, Liesbeth van Amersfoort (UWV), Ivanna Kniazevych (Port of Opportunities) and Bart Dikkeschei (employment agency Heroyam)
  • Lessons from the past: Differences and similarities with refugees from the former Yugoslavia – with, among others, Prof. Dr. Marlou Schrover & Massimo Jonker in collaboration with LDE Center for Governance of Migration and Diversity
  • Right of residence of Ukrainian displaced persons – with Bernice Boermans and Henny van de Mortel (Migration Law Foundation), Myrthe Wijnkoop (Clingendael Institute) and Angelina van Kampen (Refugee Council of the Netherlands)

Your moderator is Ali Al-Jaberi.

The National Migration Dialogue is hosted by the municipality of The Hague and takes place in collaboration with the LDE Center for Governance of Migration and Diversity.
