Book Launch: ‘Security through Cooperation: To the Same End’

22 February, 2022 @ 2:30 pm 3:30 pm

LINKS Europe cordially invites you to the launch of a new book by Dr Walter A. Kemp, titled, ‘Security through Cooperation: To the Same End’.

This book makes the case for why co-operation is the key to security within and between states, and for dealing with complex threats and challenges to international peace and security. It argues that co-operation is not altruism or liberal internationalism, rather it is in the self-interest of states. Drawing on both theory and practice, it looks at how co-operation can be promoted within and between states as well as in the global community. It explains the concept of ‘co-operative security’ and its potential contribution to promoting integration against the current of fragmentation. Furthermore, the book explores the potential impact of technology on cooperation. It makes an urgent call for new ideas and approaches to encourage people and states to work together to deal with complex threats and challenges.

We are delighted to welcome to this event Ambassador Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the OSCE’s High Commissioner on National Minorities, who will make opening remarks. This will be followed by a presentation by Dr Kemp, in which he will introduce and discuss the book and its themes, followed by questions and discussion. Copies of the book will be available to be purchased at the event.

This event will take place in person at The Hague Humanity Hub (City Centre) in The Hague, on Tuesday 22 February 2022 at 14:30-15:30.

Walter A. Kemp is Senior Fellow at the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime, and Strategic Policy Adviser at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. He teaches at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, Austria.
