AFTER THE CALIPHATE: THE ISLAMIC STATE AND THE FUTURE TERRORIST DIASPORA

Location: The Humanity Hub
Tuesday 11 December 16:30 – 18:00
Fluwelen Burgwal 58, The Hague

After years of sustained military, economic and political pressure, the so-called Islamic State (IS) has now lost some ninety-eight percent of its former territories in Iraq and Syria. Colin P. Clarke will elaborate on the second- and third-order effects of this territorial demise. In the long term, military gains against IS are a necessary step in its ultimate defeat. But in the shorter term, its dissolution will create uncertainty, rising threats, opportunities for extremists, and new challenges for military, intelligence, and law enforcement communities alike.
